Individual and Group Psychotherapy in Nashville

“I want to feel myself part of things, of the great drift and swirl: not cut off, missing things, like being sent to bed early as a child, the blinds being drawn while the sun and cheerful voices came through the chink from the garden.” -Marion Milner, A Life of One’s Own

My Approach

A strong therapeutic relationship can provide the context for transformative healing and growth. I work with people both individually and in groups who feel stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns, who desire healing from the impact of trauma and neglect, as well as those who are making important transitions in their lives.

I believe that all people deserve care, respect, and compassion, and that the personal challenges you face need to be understood within the context of the social and economic environments that surround you.

For many people, some combination of both individual and group therapy is ideal. Frequently, the intimacy and more personal focus of individual therapy is the most comfortable way to get started. Group can then be a forum within which to behaviorally test out some of the insights gained in individual therapy in a safe setting.

About Me

I received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. Since that time, I have received advanced training in areas that include modern analytic group therapy, eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

I am a member and past chair of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute (NPI), which is an organization of mental health professionals from all disciplines. I am currently serving as president of the newly formed Nashville Group Psychotherapy Society (NGPS), a local chapter of the American Group Psychotherapy Society, whose purpose is to support the development of high-quality group therapy resources in our area.

I believe that to be an effective therapist and group facilitator, one should be engaging in therapy and training experiences on an ongoing basis. To that end, I am committed to actively engaging in my own ongoing personal and professional development.
